"Like Forum 35, LANO places an extremely strong value on the partnership and collaboration between our two organizations for the benefit of the John W. Barton Sr. Community Leadership Development Program as we each contribute our strongest assets to complement one another and the community at large,” LANO President & CEO Ann Williamson said.  "There are fewer things more critical to the success of nonprofit organizations than competent volunteer board leadership, which is exactly what this program is designed to build.  The skills, knowledge, and tools that individual board members apply to their role directly affect the good work of nonprofits, and we are pleased to be able to help grow this subject matter and expertise across yet another group of emerging leaders in the Baton Rouge community.”

Since 2004, Forum 35 and LANO have partnered to train young emerging leaders in nonprofit governance and then match them with local nonprofit organizations for service on their Board of Directors.  The program is named in honor of John W. Barton Sr. in recognition of his support of Baton Rouge's nonprofit sector for over 75 years, including his vision and commitment to developing new and emerging leaders.

The 2013 John W. Barton Sr. Community Leadership Development Program kicks off August 21 and concludes in early October with participants having the opportunity to meet with nonprofit Executive Directors and Board members for potential placement on their organization’s Board of Directors or a committee.
