Art Melt 2015’s Local, Regional & National Jurors Announced

Baton Rouge, LA – May 28, 2015.  On July 25, 2015, Art Melt will host its 12th annual juried arts competition and festival at the Capitol Park Museum in Downtown Baton Rouge.  Jurors for the event are local, regional and national arts-minded individuals who have made a life in creating, supporting and promoting the arts.

Forum 35’s Art Melt is the largest multi-media, juried art exhibit in the state of Louisiana. Art Melt strives to promote professional artists throughout the state of Louisiana while providing an opportunity for the public to experience the best of local fine art, music and performing arts. This show is open to Louisiana resident artists only. All art must be original pieces and produced within the past two years.

“I’m so proud of what Forum 35 has done to create Art Melt and to keep it going for so many years. I see Art Melt as a great gift to the community from our young professionals’ organization. It’s a special time to gather people from all over the state and beyond in Baton Rouge to celebrate our unique arts and culture,” said Ellen Mathis, the 2015 Art Melt Chair. “This is exactly the kind of thing people are talking about when they say it’s great to live in South Louisiana."

Judging the Louisiana-based artist entries for the 12th Annual Art Melt are:
Kitty Pheney, Director of New Initiatives at the LSU School of Art
Keene Kopper, Founding Executive & Artistic Director of the May Gallery, New Orleans
Patty Ortiz, Internationally recognized artist and curator

The local juror is the Director of New Initiatives for the LSU School of Art, Kitty Pheney. With almost 20 years of experience, Kitty Pheney has served as curator, grant writer and nonprofit administrator. She holds a Masters in Fine Arts from LSU.

The regional juror is May Gallery Curator, Keene Kopper. Formerly a design architect for firms in Massachusetts and New York, Kopper founded the May Gallery and residency, the first contemporary art residency in New Orleans.

Finally, Patty Ortiz is serving as the national juror for Art Melt this year. In 2009, she retired as the Executive Director of the Guadaloupe Cultural Arts Center and is an independent curator in San Antonio.
