Forum 35’s Art Melt Set for Next Weekend in Downtown Baton Rouge
BATON ROUGE – Forum 35’s Art Melt will be held next weekend in downtown Baton Rouge. The event kicks off on July 24 with the Preview Party, and continues July 25 with the art exhibit opening to the public at the Capitol Park Museum.
Forum 35’s Art Melt is the largest multi-media, juried art exhibit in the state of Louisiana. Now in its 12th year, Art Melt strives to promote professional artists throughout the state of Louisiana while providing an opportunity for the public to experience the best of local fine art, music and performing arts.
The winners of the 2015 Art Melt will be announced at the Art Melt Preview Party on Friday evening. Doors open to the ticketed event at 7 p.m. Tickets may be purchased online for $75 by clicking here. The Preview Party will also be the first opportunity for the public to view the exhibit and purchase artwork.
Art Melt’s Saturday schedule kicks off with the gallery and street festival celebrating the exhibit’s opening beginning at 5 p.m. The gallery will remain open until 9 p.m., with entertainment on 4th Street until 10 p.m. The show will be open to the public during regular Capitol Park Museum hours and included with museum admission through August 27.
Entertainment during Saturday’s event will include a music stage and a cultural performance stage. The Brian Breen Trio will be performing upstairs in the Capitol Park Museum throughout the event.
The lineup for the music stage is:
5:15 p.m. PACIFICO
6:15 p.m. Bedlamville Triflers
7:15 p.m. The Chambers

Performers on the cultural performance stage include AirSeekers, Two Bear Moon, Gulf Coast Theatre on Tap, Cangelosi Dance Project, Valkyrie Belly Dance, BR Music Studios/Pineapple Democracy and Poetry Slam.
Art Melt goes to great lengths to select a panel of three professional jurors. Each year, a juror is selected at the national, regional and local levels.
The local juror is the Director of New Initiatives for the LSU School of Art, Kitty Pheney. With almost 20 years of experience, Kitty Pheney has served as curator, grant writer and nonprofit administrator. She holds a Masters in Fine Arts from LSU.
The regional juror is May Gallery Curator, Keene Kopper. Formerly a design architect for firms in Massachusetts and New York, Kopper founded the May Gallery and residency, the first contemporary art residency in New Orleans.
Finally, Patty Ortiz is serving as the national juror for Art Melt this year. In 2009, she retired as the Executive Director of the Guadaloupe Cultural Arts Center and is an independent curator in San Antonio.
Art Melt is sponsored by Launch Media, NAI Latter & Blum, Tipton Associates, Creative Bloc, Cook, Moore & Associates, the Capitol Park Museum, Catalyst Event Solutions, Dig Magazine, Lamar Advertising, Hotel Indigo, Anne Connelly Fine Art, UPS Store 5036, EMCO Technologies, Crescent Crown, Gatorworks, Whole Foods Baton Rouge and the Baton Rouge Symphony.
